Now most of us take our laptops with us on business trips, and we try to do work when we are not driving, or flying. However our laptops wireless data speed combined with the service from whatever hotel we are staying in can leave much to be desired, this is where a cell data plan comes in. A data plan is similar to a cell phone data plan, but for your laptops internet connection. This is a service typically provided by one of the major networks and offers fast, wireless data internet access from any location. Provided you are within the coverage of the towers, and signal boosters on their network, but that's a given for any network. Also, keep in mind you have to purchase the add-on card for your laptop in order to make use of the service. For Wireless Data Internet Add on cards are sold in most computer and electronics stores. Most major brands carry these cards, and even the brands of the providers themselves. If you want to get the card directly from the cell data plan company themselves you can do that as well. The reason you need this add on card is so you can have access to the wireless network you are paying for. Think of it as a laptop version of a cell phones sim card and antenna.
Many major cell phone service providers also offer cell data plans for your laptop at a discount price if you get both services through them. However, this is where things can get tricky. Cell data plans are hard to dig up information on, the companies tend to hide things in fine print. For instance your cell phone may have unlimited usage, but your cell phone data plan may only allow for a certain amount of bandwidth usage each month, or a certain time length. These restrictions can hamper your business activities worse than the cheap hotel wireless data connection. If you need a plan that only provides the ability to get online and check your email then go for one of the low bandwidth models. There is no reason to have lightning fast speed for video conferences if all you are doing is emailing status reports. The same can be said for getting low bandwidth options for video conferencing, it does not work well. Choosing the right data plan can be as hard as choosing the right cell phone plan. Once you wade through the fine print, and finally find a plan and company that fits your needs it can make life a bit easier. After all being able to check your email, or update your boss on how that construction project is going can be helpful. Who knows, work hard enough and you may get that vacation you wanted.
