It seems that e-books downloads are all the rage these days. Everybody is talking about them, and e-book readers such as the Amazon Kindle are so popular that they have sold out around the holidays.

Nevertheless, are electronic e-books as great as so many people make them out to be?

It is easy to be wowed by e-books downloads and be ready to start buying them exclusively. There are definitely some common difficulties that are associated with paper books, or p-books as they are known in the publishing industry.

Paper books are bulky, so if you are on a long trip and you need to bring a few of them, your bag can become very cumbersome very quickly. That's if you're carrying your average novels. Most people are all too familiar with lugging textbooks with them.

E-books don't weight anything! All you have to carry is the reader, and these are light and getting lighter with every new model. How many books you can carry depends on the reader that you have, but you can easily carry a dozen different books with you.

This is great for trips, if you are a heavy reader, or if you need these books for school.

Therefore, there are definitely some great perks to e-books, and many people have decided that those perks are worth the downsides e-books have as well.

One of the biggest drawbacks you will face with electronic book download is that you have to choose a reader and stick with books formatted for it.

If you buy the Kindle, you have to buy books through Amazon for it. Likewise, if you buy the eReader by Sony or any other readers, you have to buy books specifically for them.

So, if you buy one reader and decide you don't really like it, you either have to deal with it, or bite the bullet and re-buy all your e-books.

Another thing about getting e-books downloads is that you need to back them up on your computer to avoid losing any of them. If they are just on the reader, many accidents can happen and erase them. Some people don't see this as a big deal, and others think it's a hassle.

Most people will agree that for carrying multiple books that have very few pictures, the e-book readers are great, but books with a lot of details and pictures, such as textbooks, should be gotten in print format.

E-books downloads have upsides and downsides, and everybody has to decide for themselves how they feel about them and whether the e-book will become their preferred reading method.
