A Media Player VLC is a Catch-all Player That Can Handle It All

Media Player VLC is an open source, free to use media player that can handle most common codec types.

It is competing with other free media players right now and has a clear advantage over many of them. It has many functions that are usually associated with high end players and can also supports DVD playback.

The primary features of player VLC include playlists, an equalizer and advanced audio visual options. While this may not seem like a big deal to some, there are many commercially available media players that lack these functions.

The controls are your standard play, pause, stop, fast forward, rewind, forward chapter skip and reverse chapter skip. Essentially the same controls that you'd find on a DVD player.

Codecs supported are too numerous to list but suffice to say all current and many older codecs are fully supported including DIVX-encoded, .AVI files and .MOV files.

Hard and soft subtitles are both supported and you can switch audio tracks during playback. There are some playback issues with really old file formats and a few of the rarer ones, but they can be adjusted for via the options panel.

Maximizing to full screen and altering the size of the viewing window manually can be done easily and without affecting playback.

The amount of additional audio and video effects and options that the VLC Media Player offers is astounding for a free media player.

There are options to alter everything you can imagine during playback and they don't slow down performance at all. Some of these options are only seen on high end video editing suites.

Player VLC also has a file recording option that when used in conjunction with the video effects allows you to save clips for later viewing or for use in a music video.

The VLC Media Player is constantly being updated and bugs are being addressed by a very small, but active development team.

The VLCPlayer simply is the best
free player on the market.

VLC runs fine 98% of the time, the other 2% of the time, random video handling issues crop up. This is very rare; and apart from these bugs it does everything it claims to very well.

As mentioned above the bugs are being addressed actively and for the most part are being worked out.

Keep in mind this is a free media player and since they aren't charging for it they aren't getting paid for their work. This means that the developers have to take time out of their own lives to develop the player.

Compared to every other free media player out there it is simply worlds apart. It can even handle most music files and become your primary music player if you want it to.

DVD playback is fully supported and it can even play Blu-Ray format movies. Although playing a Blu-ray currently takes up a lot of processing, memory, and GPU power so make sure your system can handle it.

This format is extremely rich and detailed and not as compressed as a standard DVD. The player VLC Media Player simply is the best free player on the market. After all of its functions, features and options are combined you simply will be hard pressed to find something better.
