The more complex electronics and components require firmwares that are more complex. Again, let us look at your computer. The main board inside of it or motherboard has what is called BIOS. This stands for Basic Input Output System and is a type of firmware.

Although with these, it is less about compatibility updates with newer parts and more about compatibility with the newer codecs. A codec is the term used to describe an audio or video decoder, as technology advances these become more complex, and harder for older hardware to use.

Therefore, you can see how updating my firmware can help your old machine stay useable. At the rate we keep advancing what was popular 4 months ago is out of date already, though that doesn't mean it's bad.

Most of us do not need the latest and greatest just something that work's right. When we find it, we latch onto it and use it as long as possible. This is actually very common when it comes to consumer use.
